Fire-hydrant flushing 2

The City of Barnesville will begin system wide flushing and testing of fire hydrants on April 3, 2023. Most hydrant testing will occur during the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. weekdays. Flushing of hydrants is necessary to ensure the proper function of the hydrants and to record the pressure and flow data.

When flushing in your area you may experience discolored water. This is the result of iron oxide that has accumulated in the distribution system. If you experience discoloration in your water after crews have been flushing in your neighborhood you should clear the pipes by running all water outlets, including your clothes washing machine, with cold water for a few minutes until it is clear.  If the discoloration persists for more than 24 hours, please contact City Hall at 770-358-0181 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. If afterhours service is required, please contact the Barnesville Fire Department at 770-358- 246.
